Experience: Edel has been working in the IT service industry since 1996. Before joining the group in 2003, he provided IT services for Quantum (now Maxtor) and Geron. In 2003, Edel created the Residents Sign-Out system, used by residents to electronically hand off patients, avoiding potentially life-threatening mistakes. Edel compiled the documentation for the Department's successful HIPAA security audit in 2005. He is currently located at Mt. Zion where he supports Cardiology, DGIM, Endocrinology/Metabolism, Hematology/Oncology, Hospital Medicine, and Occupational Medicine users. You can usually find him at the Cheese Steak Shop on Tuesdays during the lunch hour.
 
Edel spends his free time with his family, and is treasurer for his home owners association where he manages a $2.5 million budget.

Kristan BeynonKristan Beynon - contact

Responsibilities: Field Support, Systems Administration, Helpdesk, Project Management
Projects: Participated in the Department's move to Campus Active Directory (2005-2006); helped migrate users to the Department's new Desktop Backup System (2005)
Experience: From her office on Moffitt Hospital's 9th floor, Kristan supports some of the Department's toughest customers on Mac OS X, Windows XP, and Treo smartphones. In addition, Kristan is the primary system administrator for the Department's Clinical Compliance server, and assists with the administration of our backup servers. Kristan joined us from the UCSF Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education, where she provided desktop support for the Center's faculty, staff, and researchers. Kristan has also taught English in Japan, and is fluent in German.

Abby CarralesAbigail Carrales - contact

Responsibilities: Field Support, Helpdesk, Web Development
Projects: Clinical Laboratory Support (2006)
Experience: Abby is one of the friendly, knowledgable voices at the other end of the DOM Helpdesk line. When she's not taking calls, she's building systems, in the field troubleshooting issues, and creating web sites. Before joining us, Abby worked at the UCSF Library as the Data Management Services coordinator, managing the site licenses for statistical packages; was part of the Interactive Learning Center technical service, where she supported the lab and classroom workstations; and supported the SOM Mobile Computing Lab. Before coming to UCSF, Abby worked in technical sales at XO Communications.
 
Abby is an avid swimmer and Bikram Yoga enthusiast, and spends much of her free time as a DJ and promoter. She speaks fluent French and conversational Spanish.

Kenton CheeKenton Chee - contact

Responsibilities: Support Coordinator, Senior Field Support Engineer, Systems Administration, Helpdesk
Projects: Helped design and implement the Department's Desktop Backup System (2004), moved the Department's Windows domain to Campus Active Directory and took part in the mail and calendar server migrations (2005-2006)
Experience: Kenton is the most experienced member of the DOM IT Services group, having started his career supporting mainframe applications at UCLA.

Kenton received the UCSF Chancellor's Award for Exceptional University Service in 2004, and many Outstanding Performance awards.

Responsibilities: Development Coordinator, Lead Web Developer, Application Developer
Projects: Department of Medicine web site (2004-2005), Online Helpdesk v.2 (2004-2005), Volunteer Clinical Faculty Resource Center (2005-2006), TIME Portal (2006-2007)
Experience: Before joining the DOM IT Services team, Ed worked for Beyond.com as an information architect and Director of International Development. He oversaw branding and eStore launches, designed user interfaces, integrated Beyond.com's systems with those of other eStore partners like AOL and Symantec, and wrote data mining tools. Before that he managed web development and electronic software distribution (ESD) packaging at CyberSource/software.net, an early leader in electronic software sales.

Marlon LeeMarlon Lee - contact

Projects: Microbiology & Immunology Gap Support (2005-2006)
Experience: Marlon supports over 100 people at the Parnassus campus, including users in DGIM, Hematology/Oncology, Allergy/Immunology, Endocrinology/Metabolism, Rheumatology, Cardiology, and the DOM Central Administration Billing Office. Before joining us in December 2006, Marlon provided technical support for the Departments of Microbiology & Immunology and the Hooper Foundation. He is a Microsoft Certified Professional, a Network+ Certified Professional, and an A+ Certified Computer Service Technician. Marlon is also one of the patient, helpful voices at the other end of the DOM Helpdesk line.
 
With a little luck, you might find him some weekend riding his motorcycle on Skyline Boulevard.

Projects: Participated in the Department's move to Campus Active Directory (2005-2006); Desktop Backup System (2003); moved DOM web sites to enterprise-class servers running LAMP (Linux, Apache 2, MySQL, PHP) (2004-2005); with Apple, RedHat and UCSF engineers, developed method for binding computers running Mac OS X and Linux to Active Directory (2005); DOM Large File Transfer server (2006)
Experience: Before joining the DOM IT group, Andrew was a systems administrator at the UCSF Magnetic Resonance Science Center, in the Department of Radiology. Andrew speaks to campus and industry groups on the topics of directory services and information security, and has received numerous performance awards.

Erik WielandErik Wieland - contact

Responsibilities: Director, Project Management, Information Security, Systems Administration, Web Development
Projects: Wrote the group's first helpdesk system (1997), multiple mail and calendar server migrations, including the Department's move to Campus Active Directory (2005-2006),
Experience: Erik wrote his first program in 1980, and has been supporting technology ever since. Erik earned his BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering (Interactive Design) at Stanford University, then went to work as an Engineering Consultant (Web and Media Projects) at Bevilacqua-Knight. He started in the Department of Medicine as a Programmer/Analyst II, and worked his way up to Director of IT Services in February 2007. Erik is an alumnus of the School of Medicine's Leadership Development Program, and serves on committees related to Human Resources and IT, Network Security, Computer Support Coordinator meetings, and Computer Support Curriculum Development.
 
When he's not working, you can find Erik bird-watching, snorkeling in Hawaii, or playing Civilization.
